For the 2026 session, Assam has significantly increased its medical seat pool.

  • Total MBBS Seats: Approximately 1,975 (up from 1,600).
  • New Institutions: Addition of Pragjyotishpur Medical College and ESIC Medical College, Beltola.
  • Capacity Expansion: Leading colleges like Gauhati Medical College (GMC) and Assam Medical College (AMC) have increased their intake to 250 seats each.

State Reservation Policy

Based on the official DME Round-1 Seat Matrix, the seats are distributed among various categories to ensure social equity.

  • Unreserved (UR): Approximately 42% of State Quota.
  • OBC/MOBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 27%
  • Scheduled Tribes (Plains): 10%
  • Scheduled Tribes (Hills): 5%
  • Scheduled Castes (SC): 7%
  • EWS (Economically Weaker Section): 10%
  • Special Quotas: Specific seats are reserved for TGL/Ex-TGL (Tea Garden Tribes), Moran, Motak, Chutia, Koch-Rajbongshi, Tai-Ahom, and Sports Quota.
