Assam is internationally known for its rich silk heritage, particularly Muga, Eri, and Mulberry Silk. The Directorate of Sericulture plays an important role in developing skilled manpower through various training programmes designed for students, extension personnel, farmers, entrepreneurs and sericulture professionals.

About Sericultural Training Institute (STI), Titabor
The Sericultural Training Institute, Titabor was established during 1944-45 and later upgraded into a full-fledged training institute. It is considered one of the oldest sericulture training institutes in India and is the only institute in North-East India providing specialized education in Vanya Silk (Muga and Eri) along with Mulberry Sericulture.
Initially the institute offered certificate training for matriculates. Later, diploma courses were introduced before being shifted to Mysore as per Government policy. Since 1997-98, the One-Year Certificate Course has been offered for HS Science students with Biology.
The institute functions under the Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Assam and provides modern infrastructure, experienced faculty and practical exposure in various aspects of silk production.
