Educational Qualification

Technician Grade-I Signal (Pay Level-5)

A) Bachelor of Science in Physics / Electronics / Computer Science / Information Technology / Instrumentation from a recognized University/Institute. OR B.Sc. in a combination of any sub-stream of basic streams of Physics/Electronics/Computer Science/Information Technology/Instrumentation.

B) Three years Diploma in Engineering in the above basic streams or in combination of any of above basic streams.

Degree in Engineering in the above basic streams or in combination of any of above basic streams.

Technician Grade-III (Pay Level-2)

Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the relevant trade as specified in Annexure A.

Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trade mentioned above.

Important Notes:

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering will NOT be accepted in lieu of Course Completed Act Apprentices/ITI for Pay Level-2 posts unless otherwise specified.
  • Candidates awaiting results of their final examination SHOULD NOT apply.
  • Educational qualifications must be obtained on or before the closing date (29.07.2026)

RRB Technician 2026 Selection Process

The recruitment process comprises the following stages:

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)

For Technician Grade-I Signal (Pay Level-5):

  • Total Duration: 90 minutes
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each wrong answer
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR-40%, EWS-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%
  • Syllabus: General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basics of Computers & Applications, Mathematics, Basic Science & Engineering

For Technician Grade-III (Pay Level-2):

  • Total Duration: 90 minutes
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each wrong answer
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR-40%, EWS-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%
  • Syllabus: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness

Stage 2: Document Verification (DV)

Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification based on merit in CBT. Shortlisting will be done RRB-wise at the rate of 1:1 of the vacancies for that RRB.

Stage 3: Medical Examination

Candidates will have to pass the requisite medical fitness test(s) as per the prescribed medical standards.

How to Apply for RRB Technician Recruitment 2026

Interested and eligible candidates may apply online by following these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official RRB website: rrb.indianrailways.gov.in or the specific RRB website of your choice.

Step 2: Click on the “Online Application” link for CEN No. 02/2026.

Step 3: Create an Account if you don’t already have one. Candidates with existing accounts from previous RRB CENs can use the same credentials.

Step 4: Fill in all personal, educational, and other details carefully. Note that details entered in the “Create an Account” form cannot be modified later.

Step 5: Choose your preferred RRB and order of post preferences under the selected Pay Level.

Step 6: Capture a live photograph using your webcam or mobile camera as per the instructions.

Step 7: Upload your signature (JPG/JPEG format, 30-49KB, 140×60 pixels) and required documents.

Step 8: Pay the examination fee online through Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.

Step 9: Review all details before final submission and take a printout of the submitted application form.

Important Instructions for Candidates

Regarding Application:

  1. Single Application per Pay Level: Candidates must submit only one application for each Pay Level. Multiple applications will lead to rejection and debarment.
  2. RRB Selection: Choose only one RRB per Pay Level. The selected RRB will be final and cannot be changed.
  3. Post Preferences: Candidates must provide order of preference for posts they are interested in. Options once exercised shall be final.
  4. Account Creation: Details filled in the ‘Create an Account’ form (including mobile number and Email ID) cannot be modified at any stage.
  5. Modification Window: Candidates can modify application details (except account details and RRB) between 01.08.2026 to 10.08.2026 by paying a modification fee of ₹250 per modification.

Regarding CBT:

  1. Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  2. Normalization: Marks will be normalized for CBTs held in multiple shifts.
  3. Banned Items: Electronic gadgets, books, pens, paper, etc. are not allowed inside the test center. Only e-call letter will be allowed.
  4. Biometric Verification: Biometric details will be recorded at every stage. Any mismatch may lead to disqualification.

Regarding Reservation:

  1. Community/Category: The community status declared in the application will determine eligibility for reservation benefits. Subsequent changes will not be recognized.
  2. Certificate Validity: SC/ST/OBC/EWS certificates must be issued by competent authorities in the prescribed formats and valid as on the closing date.
  3. OBC-NCL: OBC candidates claiming reservation must provide OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026 and a self-declaration that they do not belong to the creamy layer.
  4. EWS: Candidates must possess Income & Asset Certificate issued by competent authority with family income below ₹8 lakh and meeting asset criteria.
