Assam Agricultural University Established on April 1, 1969 with its Headquarters at Jorhat, Assam Agricultural University (AAU) is the first institution of its kind in the whole North-Eastern Region of India. The base of this institution comprised the erstwhile Assam Agricultural College at Jorhat and the Assam Veterinary College at Khanapara, Guwahati. Subsequently, seven more colleges, namely the College of Community Science at Jorhat, the College of Fisheries at Raha, the Biswanath College of Agriculture at Biswanath Chariali, the Sarat Chandra Singha College of Agriculture at Rangamati, Chapar, the Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science at Joyhing, North Lakhimpur, the College of Horticulture at Nalbari and the College of Sericulture at Titabar were established at different point of time under the AAU.

Eligibility for Undergraduate Degree Programs
Common Entrance Test (CETUGAAU25):
- Admission to all undergraduate programs is based on performance in the CETUGAAU25, conducted centrally by AAU.
- Candidates must have passed 10+2 in the science stream from a recognized board.
- Applicants must hold a certificate of Permanent Residence of Assam. For Higher Fee Category (HFC) seats, candidates from the Northeast Region (NER) are eligible. Note: HFC seats are not applicable for the B.Tech-M.Tech program.
- Students appearing for their 10+2 qualifying exam in 2025 are eligible to apply for the entrance test but must pass the exam before the admission date.
- Wards of defense/para-military personnel posted in Assam for at least one year are also eligible to apply for the entrance test.
Additional Eligibility Notes
- Qualifying Examination Requirements:
- Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination in one sitting or in a betterment examination with a minimum of four subjects as per the board’s criteria.
- Those who passed through supplementary, compartmental, or improvement exams in a single subject are not eligible.
- Candidates must have passed all subjects, with separate passing marks in theory and practical components of the qualifying examination.
- Recognized Boards:
- Students who have passed from boards accredited by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) or the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) or Physics, Chemistry, and Agriculture (PCAg) are eligible to apply.
- Exemptions from CETUGAAU25:
- Sponsored candidates from foreign countries under Bilateral/Multilateral Agreements and NRI/NRI-sponsored candidates are exempt from appearing in the CETUGAAU25, provided they meet the minimum eligibility requirements prescribed by AAU.
- Candidates nominated by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Veterinary Council of India (VCI), or Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) are also exempt from the entrance test.
